Visiting Dan

Visiting Dan - Jordan Parker

On my way back from the body slimming treatment, I passed by one of my friends’ house. I had not seen Dan in more than three months and I was wondering how was he. The last time we spoke he was waiting to finish the sponsorship process for his family. He had sent the last forms required by the government and was telling me that his family members (younger siblings) should be here within less than one year.

I was curious what stage of the process his file was. I hoped he got approved and everything went well for him.

Before heading towards his house, I called his number but it was disconnected. Since I was already in the area I thought of simply popping by and saying hello. I was not intending to stay for long. When I reached his street, I recognized his van. It was parked on his driveway. I was glad to see that he was at home.

I parked my car right behind his van, got out of the car and walked towards the front door where I rang the bell. Half a minute later, someone opened the door for me. It was not Dan. I was a lovely young woman with a beautiful smile on her face. For a second or two, I was surprised and thought that I got the wrong house.

While I was trying to articulate a sound and figure it out who that angelic creature was, I heard Dan’s voice asking me to come in. The young woman stepped aside and invited me in. As soon as I stepped into the house, I saw Dan in the middle of his livingroom, surrounded by a different pieces of furniture, some still wrapped in plastic.

He greeted me cheerfully and as if he read my mind, made the introductions. The angel who opened the door was his niece, who had recently moved in with him. She had been accepted as a foreign student at McGill. He added that his siblings would be arriving at the end of the year. Only a few months left until the whole family would be reunited. He explained that he had felt that it was a good time to do some home renovations and change the furniture before their arrival.

He asked me to give him a hand assembling one of the two bookcases he got from IKEA and a sofa. I was happy to see him and get all of his updates while helping him assemble his new furniture.
